Disability Related

LVSS considers disability from the angle of being differently abled, and not something to be pitied about. With this view in mind, it is creating awareness about disability among people, particularly among parents of the disabled children. The tool used for awareness generation is meeting. During awareness meetings parents of the disabled children are impressed upon not to treat their children as burden and that they should change their mentality. Detailed information about rights of the disabled, reservation of the disabled, etc., is given during these meetings. The parents are told that by imparting proper education, the disabled may be associated to the mainstream of the society. Needs of the disabled are thrashed out in these meetings.

Awareness on 1995 and 1999 Acts

Awareness campaigns are regularly organised in rural areas of Godda, Dumka, Pakur, Sahebganj, Deoghar, Jamtara, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and Koderma to impart detailed information on 1995 and 1999 Acts. During the campaigns, people are given information about Nirmaya Health Insurance, Parents Certificate, Disability Certificate and disability related rights so they can become aware and disabled children can be linked with mainstream of education and self-employment.

Deaf and Dumb Residential School

The organisation is running a deaf and dumb residential school-cum-resource centre at Parsoti village of Podaiyahat block of Godda district. A total of 45 disabled boys and girls are residing at the centre and getting education. The children are being given vocational training along with education so that they can be linked with mainstream of self-employment. Special teachers have been appointed for running the school.

Aspiration Day Care Centre

For disabled children the organisation is running aspiration day care centre with support from the National Trust, New Delhi. The centre caters to children in 0-7 year age group. The organisation has made bus service available in nearly 50 km range so as to cover disabled children in remote places.

Training of Mentally Retarded Children

Every month the organisation conducts training camps for the parents/guardians of mentally ill children, at the premises of residential school and resource centre for deaf and dumb. In these camps the guardians are informed about various day to day activities of the children, their exercises and physiotherapy. The organisation is trying its level best to induct these children into mainstream of the society.

Training of the Disabled

Income generation training like production of chalk, candles, incense sticks and envelopes and cutting and tailoring are being organised with support from the District Social Welfare Department, Godda.

Local Level Committee

A local level committee has been formed in the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of Godda district. The trainers of the organisation apprise the people about autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disability. They also told the people why it was important to depute guardians for these children.

Inclusive Education Workshop

Under this a training workshops are organised from time to time with support from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, for teachers of private schools of the area. The teachers are given detailed information about four kinds of disability being covered by the National Trust. They are also given tips of teaching such students.

Health Check-up Camp for Disability Certificate

To provide disability certificates to the disabled, medical camps are held on 15th and 30th day of every month at the Sadar Hospital in Godda. These camps are held with support of block level administration.

Disability Pension

The organisation surveyed disabled in different blocks of Godda district and got pension to about 14,505 disabled at the rate of Rs 200 per person per month under Swami Vivkehanand Swavalambi Yojana.

World Disability Day

The organisation celebrates World Disability Day every year on December 3 at the district headquarters. Important personalities of the district and disabled in large numbers attend this day. Nirmaya Health Insurance Cards are distributed among the disabled persons. School children are also given away school uniform.
